Young Pentecostals
I asked a friend whom I have never met personally except via the Internet to give me his impressions as an independent, objective observer of the Apostolic movement. Here was his reply:

1. Young Pentecostals are searching for an identity. They are not content.

2. The new generation wants toleration more than separation. Standards are artificial (made up) to them, not organic.

3. High school and college age kids have a catch phrase—“No one can live it.” This used to be the old Baptist cry.

4. There seems to be a general sense of “how do we know that we are right?”

5. The new generation as yet is not willing to set up the ancient landmarks again. They are Jacob, but not Israel.

My response and questions:

1) The Apostolic faith and practice, which is in line with the Word of God, provides sufficient identity—UNLESS it is identity with the world and postmodernism one is seeking. Why are some young ministers “not content”? Is someone stirring them up to stand against our traditional Pentecostal doctrines and standards? Are the “by invitation only” meetings of liberal thinkers going on around the country having an impact? Is someone telling the attendees that they should just wait and all the “old heads” will soon be gone and they will be able to make the necessary changes? Are they being told that the new generation of Pentecostals doesn’t have to adhere to the ministerial agreements and lifestyle positions we have agreed upon? Leadership down the line needs to curb such communication by simply saying, “If you don’t believe it, quit developing a fifth column in here. There is a great big world out there…go do your own thing somewhere else.” It is not time for divisiveness, but unity around the absolutes of Scripture.

2) Is it really true that the new generation wants toleration more than separation? Or is there a vocal few who are making most of the noise? Brother A. T. Morgan used to tell about a pond in Louisiana that was noisy with bullfrogs. They figured it was loaded with the nocturnal amphibians. They drained the pond and discovered that it was only two old bullfrogs doing all the croakin’. C’mon, young pastors. Stand up and be counted! Don’t let a few compromisers speak for you. Take note of where 90% of them are right now—nowhere! They are off the map. Are our standards contrived and not a natural and organic part of the body of Christ? Absolutely not. They were agreed on in conference “when we were in our right mind.” They are based on biblical principles and commandments, and relevant to our own age and current challenges we face today. Remember, Paul added “and such like” to the list of sins and activities to avoid in Galatians 5:19-21. The teaching ministry has the right and responsibility to define what “and such like” is in each generation.

3) “No one can live it!” This is a selfish cop-out and surrender to the flesh. Millions have lived it. What they mean is, “I can’t live it and do all the things I want to do.” A broader interpretation: “I don’t want to live it and this is my excuse.”

4) And “how do we know that we are right?” Those doctrines and practices that are essential to our salvation are not nebulous or indistinct. They are clear in the Scriptures. The Bible is our common denominator. All people in all generations from Pentecost until now are obligated to the same scriptural demands. Remove the authority of the Scriptures and no one will know the truth; everyone will have the same claim on being “right.” The more we diminish the authority of the Scriptures, the less we can claim to know absolute truth.

5) Is it really true that the new generation as yet is not willing to set up the ancient landmarks again? That may be true of a vocal few, and they would like to exaggerate the numbers, but I believe there are “7000 who have not bowed a knee to Baal.” Testing time will bring them out of the caves. They are Jacob, but not Israel? Have they not yet fought through the night and had their “thigh” experience? Has the fight gone out of them because some leaders have become benign and indifferent to the Apostolic message and values? That may explain the “southern direction” some have taken in recent years. As long as leaders are elected on the basis of “he’s a cool guy…his family has been around a long time…he has a household name…he seems to be open-minded about things…he is a loyal company man,” etc., rather than whether he loves the truth, stands for righteousness and the Apostolic message, and will speak out against drift, we will dilute the movement. As long as we give ministerial licenses to those who have not proved themselves to be loyal to truth and the biblical principles that our movement stands for, we can expect to see lots of Jacobs, but few Israels.

One sunny day in January, 2013 an old man approached the White House from across Pennsylvania Avenue , where he'd been sitting on a park bench. He spoke to the U.S. Marine standing guard and said, "I would like to go in and meet with President Obama."

Caroline Baum has one explanation that is illustrated in the title of her column. The title is: "I Want It All, Even Better If You Pay for It." She says that you can pick up any newspaper and see a story of "someone somewhere losing a government benefit and enduring a hardship as a result." When we read the story, it tugs at our heart strings and so we ignore that we are using deficit financing to provide for a mother. Ultimately, what we are doing will be dangerous to her child's health.

She is not the only person saying this. Listen to what Douglas Elmendorf, director of the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office recently posted on his blog. "The United States faces a fundamental disconnect between the services that people expect the government to provide, particularly in the form of benefits for older Americans, and the tax revenues that people are willing to send to the government to finance those services."

Early indications suggest that the Barack Obama presidency might turn out to be similar to the failed presidency of Jimmy Carter. That’s bad news for the nation but especially bad news for black Americans. No white presidential candidate had to live down the disgraced presidency of Carter but I’m all too fearful that a future black presidential candidate will find himself carrying the heavy baggage of a failed black president. That’s not a problem for white liberals who voted for Obama who received their one-time guilt-relieving dose from voting for a black man to be president, but it is a problem for future generations of black Americans.

Why does the political climate feel strangely like the days following the inauguration of Saul as king of Israel? A king was not the perfect will of God, but it was permitted. Soon bad things began to happen to the kingdom. Government by decree has never worked well. Kings are not known for developing corruption-free societies. Before long, it became obvious that what was needed was a new captain on the ship of state. David, a forerunner of Christ, rose up to displace him.

The political climate in America feels like we have elected a king rather than a president. We are beginning to see governing by fiat—“the king says do this, do that, go here, go there, buy this, buy that, don’t drill here….” Congress is in the far background. America is run from the White House. They are bypassing the norms we have known in the past. Everything is in their hands. Corruption swiftly follows the installation of such a government.

"Historian and art critic Robert Hughes tells of a convect sentenced to life imprisonment on a maximum security island of the coast of Australia. One day with on provocation, he turned on a fellow prisoner he barely knew and beat him senseless. The murder was shipped back to the main land to stand trail, where he gave a straightforward , passionless account of the crime, showing no sign of remorse. "Why?" ask the bewildered judge. "What was your motive?"

The prisoner replied that he was sick of life on the island, a notoriously brutal place, and that he saw no reason to keep on living. "Yes, yes, I understand that," said the judge, "I can see why you might drown yourself in the ocean. But why murder?"

"Well its like this," said the prisoner. "I'm Catholic. If I commit suicide I'll go straight to Hell. But if I murder, I can come back here confess to a priest before my execution. That way, God will forgive me."

For all of us who are married, were married, wish you were married, or wish you weren't married, this is something to smile about the next time you see a bottle of wine:

Sally was driving home from one of her business trips in Northern Arizona when she saw an elderly Navajo woman walking on the side of the road.

As the trip was a long and quiet one, she stopped the car and asked the Navajo woman if she would like a ride..

With a silent nod of thanks, the woman got into the car.

Resuming the journey, Sally tried in vain to make a bit of small talk with the Navajo woman.
The old woman just sat silently, looking intently at everything she saw, studying every little detail, until she noticed a brown bag on the seat next to Sally.

'What's in bag?' asked the old woman.

Sally looked down at the brown bag and said, 'It's a bottle of wine.
I got it for my husband.'

The Navajo woman was silent for another moment or two.
Then speaking with the quiet wisdom of an elder, she said:

'Good trade'

When a man attempted to siphon gasoline from a motor home parked on a Seattle street, he got much more than he bargained for.. Police arrived at the scene to find a very sick man curled up next to a motor home near spilled sewage. A police spokesman said that the man admitted to trying to steal gasoline, but he plugged his siphon hose into the motor home's sewage tank by mistake. The owner of the vehicle declined to press charges saying that it was the best laugh he'd ever had.

Seems an Arkansas guy wanted some beer pretty badly.. He decided that he'd just throw a cinder block through a liquor store window, grab some booze, and run. So he lifted the cinder block and heaved it over his head at the window. The cinder block bounced back and hit the would-be thief on the head, knocking him unconscious. The liquor store window was made of Plexiglas. The whole event was caught on videotape.

A man walked into a Louisiana Circle-K, put a $20 bill on the counter, and asked for change. When the clerk opened the cash drawer, the man pulled a gun and asked for all the cash in the register, which the clerk promptly provided. The man took the cash from the clerk and fled, leaving the $20 bill on the counter. The total amount of cash he got from the drawer... $15. [If someone points a gun at you and gives you money, is a crime committed?]

When his 38 caliber revolver failed to fire at his intended victim during a hold-up in Long Beach , California would-be robber James Elliot did something that can only inspire wonder. He peered down the barrel and tried the trigger again. This time it worked.

Have a few days ago I left a comment on the subject of imitating Christ. There was a comment that left me a little troubled. In that event here are my thoughts on being one who would seek to imitate our King and Redeemer.

And we have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him. (Col 3:10)

Where fore I beseech you, be ye followers of me. (1 Cor 4:6)

Be ye followers of me, even as I am also of Christ. (1 Cor 11:1)

Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; (Eph 5:1)

Why should Christians imitate Christ? They should do it for their own sakes. If they desire to be in a healthy state of soul--if they would escape the sickness of sin, and enjoy the vigour of growing grace, let Jesus be their model. For their own happiness' sake, if they would drink wine on the lees, well refined; if they would enjoy holy and happy communion with Jesus; if they would be lifted up above the cares and troubles of this world, let them walk even as He walked. There is nothing which can so assist you to walk towards heaven with good speed, as wearing the image of Jesus on your heart to rule all its motions. This morning I am thinking of my mother and just one incident in my life with mom. Mother was a small woman; the most she ever weighed was about 113 when she was pregnant with my little sister. We had marks on the kitchen door jam her height and mine. She caught me one morning checking my height and sure enough I was just a tad taller. This to an early teen boy caught me funny and I started to laugh and taunt mother about me be bigger than she was. She just took the ruler I was using and had me stand back against the jam, “sure enough you are taller than me.” End of conversation, breakfast and off to play. Monday evening when she came home from work she came in with a bag in her hand and straight to the kitchen and behind the stove it went. Nothing was said. Saturday morning my curiosity was going mad, “Mom what did you put behind the stove?” “Glad you asked,” she went behind the stove and pulled out the bag. In the bag was a hard wood dowel about one inch in diameter and about three feet long, she just stood there and waved it back and forth like a ball bat. “Now that you are bigger than I am that means I can use any method I want to get your attention!” Take my word for it she did have my undivided attention!

America's tyrants have now turned their attention to salt, as reported in the Washington Post's article "FDA plans to limit amount of salt allowed in processed foods for health reasons" (April 19, 2010). Why do food processors put a certain quantity of salt in their products? The answer is the people who buy their product like it and they earn profits by pleasing customers. The FDA has taken the position that what the American buying public wants is irrelevant. They know what's best and if you disagree, they will fine, jail or put you out of business.

Tyranny knows no bounds. Let's say that the FDA orders Stouffer's to no longer put 970 mg of sodium in their roasted turkey dinner; they mandate a maximum of 400 mg. Suppose Stouffer's customers, assuming they continue buying the product, add more salt -- what will the FDA do? The answer is easy. They will copy the successful anti-tobacco zealot template.

My questions is this, who, what or how with the climate change people find to place heave fines upon for all of the pollutants which have been introduced into our atmosphere. These pollutants can do nothing less than hasten the affects of climate change.

Josephus the Jewish historian wrote about the warning signs that were on the barrier that separated the court of the Gentiles from the other courts in the Temple. Orthodox Jews were serious about this line of demarcation. There was no proof of this barrier until recent times when archaeologists discovered one. Its seven-line inscription read as follows:

NO FOREIGNER

Death! Man doesn’t that have the sound of finality? Is it final? Yesterday I went to a funeral of a man whose family acknowledged that there was no form of religious ties or relationship. In this situation DEATH or FINALITY may be a good choice of words. Really is that the end? Then a second point, at sixty six I look at the end of what we call life with an unbelievable difference than I did at sixteen. Why? Will I am whole lot closer to that end of life experience! I am of the opinion that what we call death is not the end! It is the beginning of a whole new life experience! Mervi, describe this new experience? Sorry that you asked because I can’t do it. I have only read about one man who did return from that occurrence we call death. NO! It was not Harry Houdini, it was the one call Jesus. This one called Jesus is the one who made the transition from live to death and then back to life. So or because of my belief, faith, or confidence in Him and His words I am doing the best I can to follow the life style He taught.

Some have said that the stimulus hasn't saved any jobs, but here is a case where at least one job was saved. Oregon State University Athletic Director Bob DeCarolis was considering firing their basketball coach, Craig Robinson, after an 8-11 start (2-5 in the Pac 10 conference). When word of this reached Washington, Undersecretary of Education Martha Kanter was dispatched to Corvallis with $17 million in stimulus money for the university. Craig Robinson's job is safe for this year. For those of you unfamiliar with Coach Robinson, he just so happens to be Michelle Obama's older brother. Just a coincidence I'm sure!

One of the major differences between the right and the left concerns the question of authority: To whom do we owe obedience and who is the ultimate moral authority?

For the right, the primary moral authority is God (or, for secular conservatives, Judeo-Christian values), followed by parents. Of course, government must also play a role, but it is ultimately accountable to God and it should do nothing to undermine parental authority.

For the left, the state and its government are the supreme authorities, while parental and divine authority are seen as impediments to state authority.

No one denies that the Earth's temperature changes. Millions of years ago, much of our planet was covered by ice, at some places up to a mile thick, a period some scientists call "Snowball Earth." Today, the Earth is not covered by a mile of ice; a safe conclusion is that there must have been a bit of global warming. I don't know the cause of that warming, but I'd wager everything I own that it was not caused by coal-fired electric generation plants, incandescent light bulbs and SUVs tooling up and down the highways."

Both students were African-American, and so was most of the elementary school's student body, according to [the students' lawyer, Lawrence C.] Kobrovsky....

[The younger student] claimed she suffered emotional trauma because she was subjected to racial and sexual slurs at ... elementary school ... Despite complaints, school administrative staff and district officials allowed the abuse to "escalate to the point where [she] was physically threatened, assaulted and battered," the suit alleged.

"You have a culture where to act like you want to do well in school is considered acting white. And that is part of why we're saying that it was racial, even though the students were all of the same race because they weren't acting how the others thought they should be acting as members of that race," Kobrovsky said....

Two black students attending a mostly black school complain of being harassed for "acting white" and sue under the anti-discrimination code?

Russia’s space chief said Wednesday that a spacecraft may be dispatched to shift an asteroid's course and reduce the chances of Earth impact, even though U.S. experts say such a scenario is unlikely.

Anatoly Perminov, the head of Russia's Federal Space Agency, told Golos Rossii (Voice of Russia) radio that officials would hold a meeting soon to assess a mission to the asteroid Apophis. He said his agency might eventually invite NASA, the European Space Agency, the Chinese space agency and others to join the project.

When the 270-meter (885-foot) asteroid was first discovered in 2004, astronomers estimated its chances of smashing into Earth in its first flyby, in 2029, at 1 in 37
