Great Expectations (Cal Thomas)

There is a reason the psalmist warned, "Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help." (Psalm 146:3)

It wasn't that he was cynical about humanity. It appears the writer observed that the best efforts of humankind were unable to produce the satisfaction people sought in earthly leaders.

Which brings us to the expectations surrounding Barack Obama

Great art work !!

Sanctuary City ??

What did I miss or what is it that I don’t grasp? Yes in the Old Testament there were Cities of Refugee where you could stay to avoid the, “Avenger of Blood,” providing it was an innocent killing.

Now a city in this the United States of America and in the state of California declares it’s self a protector of those who have done wrong, with no regard for their citizenship status? This city also failed to consider the type of or the severity of the crime committed. This same city has not allowed the same status or privilege to the citizens of the same city, state or nation? What did I miss or fail to grasp?

Should I go into this same city with a fully automatic AK-47 empty it into a car, home, business or people just standing waiting to get on a bus? Will that city allow me to go free?

To those who pass this way. What does this say to those who are making the effort to be law observing citizens of that city, state or country?

OH! Here is the link to the Sacramento Bee and the story that provoked my writing this morning.

Should / will Israel attack the nuclear facility in Iraq??

There are many people who feel that this course of action is inevitable. Right or wrong for either side it? I do not know, yet I do believe this attack is brewing and in my personal option it will happen.

Have you considered the last part of chapter 39 in the prophesy of Ezekiel? In my option this sounds a lot like the after affect of a nuclear attack.

Here is a link to an article by Dennis Prayger:

In this article Mr. Prayger posses a MAD theory which makes sense to me.

Truck thief takes cable guy for harrowing ride

The Bakersfield Californian Sunday, Jul 20 2008 3:13 PM
Last Updated: Monday, Jul 21 2008 7:04 AM

A northeast Bakersfield man faces charges after he allegedly stole a Brighthouse Networks truck Saturday as a cable company employee, in a bucket lift attached to the truck and elevated 25 feet in the air, repaired lines.
Police said Danny Sanchez, 29, of Eureka Street, entered the vehicle and drove off around 6:30 p.m. The bucket lift tore down several phone lines before Sanchez crashed the vehicle into a utility pole, according to Bakersfield police Lt. Mike Cantrell.
Bright House employee Curtis Bartell, 50, remained in the bucket during the ordeal. He complained of pain but apparently suffered no major injuries, Cantrell said.
Sanchez fled the scene but was located by police Sunday morning. He was arrested and charged on suspicion of hit-and-run, automobile theft and false imprisonment.

THE LAW OF THE GARBAGE TRUCK…

One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his breaks, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really friendly. So I asked, "Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!" This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, "The Law of the Garbage Truck".

He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you. Don't take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets. The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so . . . . "Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't."

In a follow up to my last post.

My youngest brother served two tours in Vietnam, as a Marine. Several purple hearts, commendation of valor along with a lot, of what is called, fruit salad. Which are those funny colored bars that the military displays on their uniforms. Yet, to Larry the most important medal he possessed was the one he received after his two years of duty at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Get Larry started and would talk for hours about those two years, on the rug, which is the popular term. The weapon they carried was a standard issue M-1 carbine with three LIVE rounds, (bullets). He marched in the rain, the snow, the beautiful days of spring, and heat of summer, sometimes even with the moon as his only company, but sleep was far from his mind and eyes. His or their one and only goal, protect that howled ground. He paid no attention to what went on around him. He just watched that piece of granite to keep or protect it at any and all cost.

Yet, Larry always would tell of a young lady who did not understand English very well. She crossed that carpet into that no-man’s land. Larry, per his training, he stopped and tuned, with the command to halt! She kept moving, wanting a closer picture. Once more per his training he brought his weapon to ready position and called halt! Some of the people around them began to stir and look around. Once more per training he breached his weapon, moved the bolt action to bring a live shell into the firing chamber, and called for a third time halt. A father looked and saw his daughter and where she was, he moved so quickly, across the carpet, caught her by the waist and carried her back across the carpet. Larry, per training, removed the clip, removed the live round from the chamber, replaced it into the clip, returned the clip to the weapon and resumed his march. The father walked beside Larry for a short while trying to explain and offer apology until a member of the military stopped and explained that this solider could and would not brake his march or speak to anyone. Larry cried a lot that night and latter was consoled by his “Officer in Command.”

OH to stand this true to the cause of Christ!!

Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

1. How many steps does the guard take during his walk across the tomb of the Unknowns and why?
21 steps. It alludes to the twenty-one gun salute, which isthe highest honor given any military or foreign dignitary.

2. How long does he hesitate after his about face to begin his return walk and why?
21 seconds for the same reason as answer number 1

3. Why are his gloves wet?
His gloves are moistened to prevent his losing his grip on the rifle.

4. Does he carry his rifle on the same shoulder all the time and if not, why not?
He carries the rifle on the shoulder away from the tomb. After his march across the path, he executes an about face and moves the rifle to the outside shoulder.

5. How often are the guards changed?
Guards are changed every thirty minutes, twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year.

6. What are the physical traits of the guard limited to?
For a person to apply for guard duty at the tomb he must be between 5' 10' an d 6' 2' tall and his waist size cannot exceed 30'.

Other requirements of the Guard: They must commit 2 years of life to guard the tomb, live in a barracks under the tomb, and cannot drink any alcohol on or off duty for the rest of their lives. They cannot swear in public for the rest of their lives and cannot disgrace the uniform {fighting} or the tomb in anyway. After two years, the guard is given a wreath pin that is worn on their lapel signifying they served as guard of the tomb. There are only 400 presently worn. The guard must obey these rules for the rest of their lives or give up the wreath pin.The shoes are specially made with very thick soles to keep the heat and cold from their feet. There are metal heel plates that extend to the top of the shoe in order to make the loud click as they come to a halt. There are no wrinkles, folds or lint on the uniform. Guards dress for duty in front of a full-length mirror. The first six months of duty a guard cannot talk to anyone, nor watch TV. All off duty time is spent studying the 175 notable people laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery. A guard must memorize who they are and where they are interred. Among the notables are: President Taft, Joe E. Lewis {the boxer} and Medal of Honor winner Audie Murphy, {the most decorated soldier of WWII} of Hollywood fame.Every guard spends five hours a day getting his uniforms ready for guard duty.

ETERNAL REST GRANT THEM O LORD,
AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON THEM.

In 2003 as Hurricane Isabelle was approaching Washington, DC , our US Senate/House took 2 days off with anticipation of the storm. On the ABC evening news, it was reported that because of the dangers from the hurricane, the military members assigned the duty of guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier were given permission to suspend the assignment.

They respectfully declined the offer, 'No way, Sir!' Soaked to the skin, marching in the pelting rain of a tropical storm, they said that guarding the Tomb was not just an assignment; it was the highest honor that can be afforded to a service person. The tomb has been patrolled continuously, 24/7, since 1930.God Bless and keep them.I don't usually suggest that many emails be forwarded, but I'd be very proud if this one reached as many as possible. We can be very proud of our young men and women in the service no matter where they serve.

What is happening??

Where are we going in our political arena?

Back tracking to the cover of the New Yorker Magazine. This morning on the Webb Page for the New York Times I counted three different stories or articles all pointed toward point that Obama is having race, color, difficulties.

Is this where we, as a nation desire to go?

Have we not come at least some distance in healing those wounds?

Do we as electorates need to be remained of the ethnicity of those running for office?

Just my thoughts on this subject;

Or by choice, the good one man can to his neighbor.

Is this to much!! ??

"The cover of this week's New Yorker magazine depicts Obama in one-piece Muslim garb and headdress fist-bumping his booted, Afro-wearing wife Michelle in camo clothes with an AK-47 and ammo-belt slung over her shoulder beneath a portrait of Osama bin-Laden while the American flag burns in the fireplace -- in the presidential Oval Office." Yes. This is a little, or maybe lot, slanted or on the wrong side of center? Even for Mervi.

Abram (2)

The visitors that had stopped by Abram’s tent, that day, were now refreshed and started to depart from their gracious host. As they bowed one to another and said words of parting the three strangers started down the path toward Sodom and Lot. The Lord had not gone far when He asked Himself a question. How can I not let Abram know what is about to happen? He turned and came back to Abram and let this mortal know the plans of the immortal. The thought of Lot being destroyed with all the others in Sodom brought Abram to a new awakening as to whom he was in the presents of. Lord if you could find fifty righteous, would you not bring this great destruction? Surly Lot had been a little of a testimony in Sodom? Yes, Abram if we can find fifty. Abram stood there thinking about the last time he had been to Lot’s home. The table was clean but the Torah was dusty. Lord if there be forty? Yes, Abram if we can find forty I will spare the city. Abram dropped his head as he remembered the last time he asked Lot to say the blessing over dinner. Lord if there are only thirty? Yes, Abram if there are thirty I will spare the city. Abram shifted his feet and thought about how late Lot was to the last sacrifice to the Lord. Lord should you find twenty? Yes, Abram should there be twenty I will spare the city. Abram stood very still and quite as he though of all the things that gone wrong with and for Lot. Lord please be kind, but should you find just ten?? Yes, Abram Should I find ten I will spare the city. Abram knew what he was doing, he knew with whom he was speaking and his words were very measured, cautious yet deliberate.

Yes, in my short life there have been times when after a season of worship to bring a refreshing to the Lord. Things have changed, as Paul commented, groaning which I could not utter. Pain, tears and weeping are they always for Mervi? No, not always, but for others the time of intersession which moves the Lord of Glory. I have seen and many have heard of the times when parents in deep intersession for children around the world. And the hand of our God prevailed. Did Abram bargain with the Lord? I never have felt that this was the plan of Abram. Abram knew the mercies of the Lord. This is what Abram was entreating. He was dealing with the eternal mercy of our God and Savoir. There will come times in our lives when someone somewhere will need to call on the Lord that His mercy will touch and work for us!

Oh let there be an Abram who knows how to entreat the mercy of the eternal!

Just a thought

“Young people raised on color T.V. don’t spent don't spend a lot of time looking at black-and-white images.
That’s to bad. There are no better role models than Jackie Robinson and Sandee Blatt. The message in their stories is this: Complaining doesn’t work as a strategy. We all have finite time and energy. Any time we spend whining is unlikely to help us achieve our goals. And it won’t make us happier.”

Only in America

Only in America ........do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.

Only in America .......do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries, and a diet coke.

Only in America ......do banks leave both doors open and then chain the pens to the counters.

Only in America .......do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage.

Only in America .......do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in packages of eight.

Only in America .... ...do they have drive-up ATM machines with Braille lettering.

Yet, I still love America!!!

I am proud to be an Amercian!!

Yes, I still stand when the “Star Spangled Banner is Played,” I still put my hand over my heard at the Pledge of allegiance. I have had the very moving experience of standing in Fort Sumter, South Carolina and Looking out into the bay. Yes, I have stood as the Guard was changed at the tomb of the unknown solider.

I am writing today sitting in a good old American Starbucks; behind me, in line this morning, there were two young men in military uniform. I bought their coffee. These young men and their commitment have allowed me to still have my freedom, that freedom, which allows me to sit in a Starbucks and enjoy a cup of coffee.
